Australian Zircon NL Processing Plant

Australian Zircon NL (AZ) developed a green-field mineral sands mine, wet concentrate plant, dry separation plant, distribution facilities and associated infrastructure at their Mindarie mine site.  AZ mine and recover valuable heavy mineral sands from the ore resource. This plant has since been moved to Image Resources’ Boonanarang deposit.

IHC Robbins provided design, procurement, site co-ordination, construction and commissioning of the processing plants including the following.

  • Mining Plant
  • Primary Concentrate Plant (PCP)
  • Mineral Separation Plant (MSP) and Concentrate Upgrade Plant (CUP)
  • PCP / CUP Process WaterMSP Process Water
  • Reagent Handling and Preparation

A heavy mineral resource of 44.7 million tonnes is available for recovery and production of the following minerals:

  • Zircon
  • Ilmenite
  • Rutile
  • Leucoxene

Due to the unique nature of the ore body and processing methods available at the time being unsuitable, IHC Robbins designed an innovative in-pit miner slurry unit to deliver the head feed to the Primary Concentrate Plant.
