On a dredging vessel, valves are fitted to regulate the dredging process. These valves can connect internal pipes and seal external openings to (sea) water. It is desirable to read the position of these valves locally by means of a stand indicator. This indicates the position of the valve by means of a mechanical connection showing the position of the gate. The indicator can be either a rotating or a translating variant. The indicator is mounted on the outside of the valve and connected to the gate at the level of the cylinder connection. Due to the increasingly higher pressures and valve dimensions, sealing this indicator is an ever-increasing challenge. The mechanical indication of the position of the shut-off valve is required by inspection authorities for certain locations on a ship.
Goal: To design a stand indicator that can leak out without leak and without open connection to operate.
Result: Report containing concepts, 3D CAD files, and drawings of the standard design.
To be eligible for this position, you must have the following:
- good command of Dutch and English, both written and verbal
- an independent way of working
- minimum HBO+ level in Mechanical Engineering or Maritime Technology
- proactive, inquisitive and enthusiastic
- show initiative, have excellent investigative skills and a highly inquisitive attitude.
