IHC Systems has developed its own dynamic position (DP/DT) system. This is the leading system onboard hopper dredgers. The DP/DT system automatically governs a vessel’s actuators propellers, thrusters and rudders and its power management system in order to efficiently utilise its positioning capability. Its behaviour is based on information from environmental sensors, adaptive hydromechanical models and sophisticated filtering. You will be responsible for maintaining this product and defining the functional requirements for it. In addition, you will create all the necessary documentation such as functional specifications, factory acceptance tests (FATs) and user manuals (together with our technical writer). In this position, you will work on implementing our DP/DT system on-board vessels, mostly as part of a project team. Interfaces with other systems, such as propulsion control, must also be defined. In addition, your role will be to configure and test the software for the specific vessel. Part of you role will also involve tuning the system on-board a vessel during installation and conducting the handover to the customer. You will train our customers’ employees in house or on board. You will also assist our service organisation on complex problems with the DP/DT system, which means that you will need to be prepared to travel a couple of times per year.
To be eligible for the role of Product Engineer, you must have:
- a higher professional (HBO) level of education
- demonstrable experience with and/or an understanding of measurement and control technology, as well as process automation
- affinity with software products and automation common
- be able to apply changes in software by coding a PLC or edit configuration files/scripts.
- ability to read and write functional specifications and drawings (electric, pneumatic and hydraulic)
- ability to work effectively in project teams, analytical approach and the ability to take the initiative
- excellent communication skills in English, with moderate Dutch skills (desirable).
