As the Production Manager of the largest covered slipway in Europe, measuring 240x40 metres, you will be in charge of all yard-related activities. You will lead a Production Management team, whose main tasks are the assembly of complex constructions and hulls of custom-built offshore and dredging vessels. You will liaise with colleagues handling the outfitting and commissioning of the ships. You will know how to motivate and cooperate with various multinational teams, consisting of managers, supervisors, assemblers and welders. As such, you will be able to understand and handle cultural differences. Furthermore, a number subcontractors are working on the vessels in the yard and will need to be coordinated.
Building a vessel requires cooperation and organisation. During this give and take process, you will work closely with IHC’s project managers, engineers, and supply chain managers. You will line up the detailed planning with the manufacturing departments (steel, pipes and secondary steel etc). In addition, you will work together with the production manager at IHC’s yard in Kinderdijk, to divide projects, align work methods and building strategies. We expect you to have experience with and knowledge of the production and assembly of large capital goods, preferably ships. In addition, you will understand the importance of building a team and maintaining it. You are, in short, a people manager with technical knowledge.
Every project is different and, with this in mind, you will be flexible in order to adapt to changing circumstances. You will be transparent and decisive, and able to communicate clearly to make sure decisions are executed, while remaining open to feedback. Your experience will not only be applied during the assembly stages of a vessel, but will also be used as input for our commercial processes on future projects.
To be eligible for the role of Production Manager at Royal IHC, you must have:
- academic level of education with a technical background (maritime, mechanical or offshore engineering are preferred but not essential)
- ability to take the initiative, with a proactive and pragmatic approach
- experience of complex projects, where issue management and adaptation are an everyday occurrence
- ability to strengthen, develop and manage a team
- extensive experience in the assembly and building of large capital goods (preferably ships).
- strong communication skills, with fluency in Dutch and English.
