China’s largest trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD), JUN YANG 1, was officially handed over to her owners in Guangzhou City, China on 10 October 2016, two months after leaving Kinderdijk in The Netherlands.

The handover was signed by Mr Arnold den Boon (IHC Executive Director Marketing & Sales), Mr Wang Bohuan (President of CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Company) and Mrs Liu Pingfang (Vice Managing Director, CCCC Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Co. Ltd) during an official ceremony.

“It is a great honour to be invited to this event,” says Mr Boon. “I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to CCCC GDC and its supervision team, headed by Mr Luo Rijia, for its hard work and excellent cooperation. I am proud to handover this beautiful dredger and wish her and the crew safe travels during her entire lifetime.”

The JUN YANG 1 is the 21st vessel designed, constructed and/or delivered by IHC for CCCC GDC over the last 40 years. This newly built vessel has a high level of automation on board, and enables CCCC GDC to carry out capital dredging and land reclamation projects in its domestic and international markets in a highly efficient way.

First project
On 28 October 2016, the vessel will arrive on her first operation, a huge sand reclamation project in Sri Lanka, where she will work on the construction of Colombo Port City.
