How does a submersible dredge pump on a TSHD or CSD improve production?

A dredge pump that is positioned below the waterline will benefit from the additional pressure that is exerted by the column of water above it. This additional pressure counterbalances the vacuum on the suction side of the pump, effectively reducing the vacuum required for operation.

As a result, the deeper the pump is positioned below the waterline, the lower the vacuum required to move the dredge material. The submerged dredge pump detaches the pump location from the draught of the vessel, improving suction capabilities even more.

In addition, placing the pump below the waterline shortens the suction pipe, reducing the distance the slurry must be lifted. This results in lower resistance losses and a more efficient suction process altogether.

Why choose our submersible dredge pumps?

  • Deep(er) dredging capabilities
Our submersible dredge pumps are engineered for improved production rates at deep dredging operations. This results in higher efficiency with reduced resistance and smoother suction.
  • Improved suction and loading performance
Our submersible dredge pumps enable higher mixture densities, reduced overflow losses and faster loading times on a TSHD or larger discharge distances on a CSD. Especially for shallow draught vessels and empty trailing suction dredgers.
  • Robust design
Our submersible dredge pumps are designed to withstand the toughest dredging conditions, whether on a cutter ladder or in a unit in the trailing suction pipe. Vibrations and angled operating positions are taken into account. Maintenance and serviceability are given special attention.

TSHD integrated submersible dredge pump unit

Our integrated submersible dredge pump unit is designed to save space and reduce weight on the deck of a TSHD, ensuring low stress on gantries and winches.  All carefully matched components (frame, single wall dredge pump, motor, dredge pipe lines and auxiliary equipment such as gland water pumps) are integrated into the unit.

The frame ensures that dredging forces do not pass through the motor and pump. In addition, it protects the components inside the frame from any impact from the outside.

Hydraulic and electric-driven submersible dredge pumps

For low power, we offer a hydraulically driven submerged dredge pump as a simple and lightweight solution. For low to high power, we offer electrically driven submerged dredge pumps, which provide a highly efficient and sustainable solution for optimum pump control.

Power outputs ranging from 95 to 6,500 kW.

Submersible electric motor

High energy conversion, short overall length and low operating costs are achieved by installing an integrated pump-electric motor assembly without a separate bearing block.

Designed with less rotating parts and to withstand the harsh environment of dredging, this setup is built to last.

The reliable, fully self-regulating patented Bellow Pressure Compensator is used in combination with oil-filled electric motors to handle the expansion of oil. At all depths, it maintains a slight overpressure of the oil against the surrounding water. The motor is therefore always optimally protected.

If the impeller is mounted directly on the shaft, our Threaded Slip Protection protects the electric motor when the impeller becomes blocked. This is a particularly valuable feature when used in conjunction with the white cast iron (Maxidur 5) impeller.
