IHC Offshore Energy has celebrated the twin keel laying ceremony that marks the official start of construction for CS GENESIS and CS TRIUMPH, the first two fibre optic cable lay vessels in OMS Group’s GREAT Class fleet.

With an aging fleet of vessels, the telecoms industry is struggling to keep pace with the demand for subsea data cables. OMS Group is the first independent telecoms contractor to commission new build fibre optic cable lay vessels, directly addressing this gap. With CS GENESIS and CS TRIUMPH, OMS Group will have the capability and capacity to support complex, large-scale subsea cable installation projects and strengthen our global digital infrastructure.

High-capacity fibre optic cable lay vessels

Built on Royal IHC’s proven Type-22 platform, CS GENESIS and CS TRIUMPH will each feature two large cable tanks and dual firing lines, enabling both cable lay and cable maintenance operations.

The vessels will be equipped with fully integrated mission equipment and the Sea Stallion FibrePro plough, with 300 kW jetting capability that enables cable burial and protection to 3.3 metres. Provisions for ROV integration support seabed inspection, cable inspection, touch down point monitoring and route verification (post lay burial surveys).

Key specifications
