IHC welcomes 80 delegates to inspirational dredging seminar in Indonesia

On 11 and 12 December 2018, Royal IHC partnered with Stiamak Barunawati and Pelindo III to deliver a dredging seminar in Surabaya, Indonesia. The aim of the event was to give an insight into the world of dredging, and encourage contractors and other relevant parties to enter this field by sharing IHC’s diverse market knowledge.

The format of the seminar was designed to be approachable and varied. The programme of topics covered several themes, including: government regulations that relate to dredging activities; the need for maintenance dredging from a port perspective; and IHC’s commitment to the Indonesian market, and its desire to strengthen and support the dredging industry throughout Indonesia.

IHC’s professionals presented the latest technology that surrounds dredging equipment, trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) and cutter suction dredgers (CSDs). In addition, they advised on the selection of equipment based on a range of circumstances required by different projects.

Guest speaker Agussalim Igarashi, Director of PT SKAL, discussed the need for the deepening of rivers in order to achieve lower overall transportation costs for bulk commodities. Using the water ways as a mode of transport reduces traffic on the roads and has a lower impact on the environment. This type of dredging project results in a win-win situation for all parties involved.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed with Stiamak Barunawati, which is an affiliated company of Pelindo III. This is to further develop these types of training programmes and tailor them to more specific target groups within the Pelindo III group of companies.

“We were delighted to welcome as many as 80 interested people and business friends in the dredging industry,” says IHC’s Executive Commercial Director Arne de Kock. “It was held in a great setting and we had several inspiring presentations about the dredging industry.

“This is a fantastic way to share knowledge and experience, and the format of these seminars works well. We’ve held several seminars in the past which were also a big success. The inspiration for our innovations are primarily driven by close cooperation with our customers. As such, we’ll continue organising these events, which promote a partnership approach.” 

Opportunities in Indonesia

Indonesia can be a difficult country to do business with, but at the same time it is a country with enormous opportunities in the maritime domain.

That is why on Friday, December 14, 2018, the covenant Partners for International Business (PIB): Shipbuilding Cluster Indonesia was signed in The Hague. In order to boost shipbuilding knowledge in Indonesia, Royal IHC together with six other companies, Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) and RVO, signed the agreement. With this they are committing themselves to a three-year partnership with several ministries and the Dutch Embassy in Indonesia.
