In December 2019 Giyani Metals Corp. selected SRK Consulting and a joint bid from Tetra Tech and Royal IHC to conduct the feasibility study for its K.Hill manganese deposit in Botswana. IHC together with Tetra Tech will be in charge of the processing plant, infrastructure and project execution disciplines for the feasibility study. Whereas SRK will be responsible for all of the technical mining disciplines.

Specialised expertise

The joint bid provides Giyani with specialised experience from Tetra Tech in the process of making electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) in a solvent extraction / electro winning (SX/EW) plant. IHC brings its global experience in plant engineering and construction to the project.

Site visit

To kick-off the feasibility study, Giyani organised a three-day site visit late December 2019 . IHC attended this site visit, which was intended to provide all parties involved with first-hand experience of the K.Hill project area in order to get an initial understanding of the requirements to build and operate the project.

Robin Birchall, CEO of Giyani, comments: “It was very important for the company to kick start the K.Hill feasibility study with a comprehensive site visit with all of the project leads from SRK, Tetra Tech and Royal IHC. I believe that the three-day site visit was a beneficial use of time that provided valuable input to the planning process for all participants.”

Derk Hartman, Director EPC & Project Delivery for IHC's mining activities, adds “The site visit confirmed that Giyani has a unique opportunity to benefit from some of the best infrastructure in Southern Africa which includes well-maintained roads and close access to the robust power supply network that also feeds Debswana’s nearby Jwaneng diamond mine. Established supply routes and power will enable a fast and cost-efficient development of the K.Hill manganese project.”
